Creative Writing Workshop and Sharing Session
Facilitator: Dr James Mackay
Sharing is the best way to stimulate the creative muscles and help you appreciate your own writing and that of others. The aim of this workshop will be for each participant to try writing something over the next few weeks in response to a prompt – it could be a poem, flash fiction or part of a longer story. After each person reads their piece, the group will then be asked to respond with positive critique to the work in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere. Depending on numbers, we should also be able to do some instant writing challenges – bring paper and pens!
The prompt for February’s session is ONLINE, OFFLINE. Be as creative as you like in response to this: it’s *your* piece and you can take it anywhere you like.
Please respect the upper word limit of 1,000 words – that’s about as long as most audiences can concentrate in order to give good feedback. If you want to read part of a larger work, no problem.
My experience: I have taught creative writing, writing for social media and creative non-fiction at university level, and have published my poetry in several anthologies. I’ve also run a series of Open Mic events for poetry and storytelling.
